Abandoned Domestic Cats in Group Settings
- My Tenth Life

It is not uncommon, unfortunately, to have cats who, through no efforts of their own, have gotten on the wrong side of the door. This happens a lot in group settings such as apartment buildings and Assisted Living Facilities. Someone lives with a cat, goes through a life crisis and family comes in to manage. The door gets left ajar, strangers may be about and the cats escapes. The cat is now in a bind and must scramble to survive.
I am currently trying to trap a cat who has gotten itself into such a situation. It lives at an assisted living residence, in a drain pipe. It eats from the dumpster. We can do better. Today was day 2 of trying to trap the cat. I arrive in the wee hours of the morning and set the trap. I sit in my car in the parking lot and leave when it begins to get light and the world starts to wake up. I'm hoping 3 times will be the charm. Yesterday I saw the cat, watched it scamper past my car and rummage through the bags in the dumpster. It didn't go into the trap, though. Today, no cat in sight. No photos for this post. It's been too cold and too dark to snap a shot. I'll keep you posted!
